FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR RATING

About the rating

With a flight instructor rating, you can instruct pilots in flight schools, perform pilot training flights for the renewal of ratings and train them for additional permits.

Entry requirements

Minimum age at least 18 years

Valid license PPL (A) or a license of the same level for which the candidate wishes to instruct

Valid medical certificate for the corresponding license

Flying time of at least 15 hours as an airplane pilot of that class or type, such as an airplane to be trained on, of which no more than 7 hours on a FSTD representing that class or type of airplane, or acquired assessment of competence for the relevant category of instructor on that class or type

Completed CPL (A) theory, except for a FI (A) for LAPL (A) training

At least 200 hours of total flying experiences and from that at least 100 hours as a PIC

At least 30 hours on single-engine piston airplanes of which at least 5 hours in the six months prior to pre-test flight from FCL.930.FI (a)

Completed VFR flight as a PIC, including a long flight of at least 555 km (300 NM), during which made landings at two different aerodromes

Passed a specific pre-entry flight test with an FI qualified in accordance with FCL.905.FI (i)

The theoretical part consists of 125 hours of lectures from courses that with instructor supplement complements the PPL (A) training:

Teaching and learning

Before beginning the practical training candidate must undergo an internal test of knowledge from the theory.

Practical part

The applicant must fly a total of at least 30 hours under the flight school program approved by the Civil Aviation Agency.

Exam

Exam includes:

Examination of theoretical knowledge in flight school (questions from individual subjects, knowledge of the airplane and airport)

Rating validity

FI (A) rating is valid for 3 years and needs to be renewed before its expiration, the rating is renewed for a period of three years.
